PRC law firm Jia Yuan Law Offices has strengthened its capital markets practice in Hong Kong after hiring partner Wanda Woo and her team from A&O Shearman.

Woo becomes Jia Yuan’s second partner hire from A&O Shearman in a week, after the arrival of Daisy Qi as senior partner and head of the investment funds practice in Shanghai.

Woo’s team includes A&O Shearman lawyers Feng Chaoyi and Gu Wenxin, who will be joining Jia Yuan as consultants.

Her departure follows the successful merger between Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling. The merged firm last month announced plans to cut 10 percent of equity partners globally.

Woo has 18 years of experience working with clients in the healthcare, technology, media and communications (TMT), new economy, autonomous driving, and retail industries.

She rejoined Shearman & Sterling for her second stint in 2022 from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, prior to which she was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis.

According to Jia Yuan, Woo was the sole partner in charge of the Hong Kong capital markets practice at Shearman before the A&O merger was completed in May.

With the addition of Woo, Jia Yuan has four partners in Hong Kong.
