Vietnamese law firm Vilaf has promoted Nguyen Quang Vu to its partnership at the firm’s Hanoi office.

Nguyen has 13 years of private practice experience, including eight years with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in its office in Hanoi. He joined Vilaf in April 2010.

Nguyen’s practice covers a portfolio of major transactions in the spheres of M&A, capital markets (including overseas listings) and the conversion of large state-owned enterprises in Vietnam into public limited companies. He also has extensive experience in working with project developers and international financial institutions in large infrastructure projects.

Additionally, Vilaf has hired Paul Sullivan to its corporate/M&A practice. Sullivan, who has four years of experience at international law firms, has advised domestic and global clients on the legal and commercial issues relating to inbound M&A transactions, as well as cross border transactions.

Sullivan’s transactional experience includes advising Emirates, Malaysian Airlines, Qantas Airlines, Standard Chartered Bank and General Electric. Prior to joining Vilaf, he worked with Allen & Overy in Australia and Russell McVeagh in New Zealand.

“Despite the recent decline of foreign direct investment into Vietnam, Vilaf has continued to grow its market share into sophisticated M&A, capital market, financing and restructuring transactions and expands its legal team with both local and international qualification and expertise” the firm said in an emailed statement. “Vilaf is growing to meet market needs and is looking forward to the higher demand and expectations of its international clients.”
