Jones Day has hired Charles Chau as a partner in its M&A practice in Hong Kong from Morrison & Foerster.

Chau’s experience is in public and private company acquisitions, joint ventures, financings, and pre-IPO investment transactions. He has acted for clients across a broad range of industry sectors, including banking and financial services, health care, biotech, retail, real estate, and manufacturing.

During his decade-long stint at MoFo, Chau advised a number of Chinese companies on their M&A transactions, including state-owned train maker China CNR Corporation on its $26 billion merger with CSR Corporation in 2015 – the first merger of two companies listed in both Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Chau’s appointment comes just a month after Jones Day lost M&A partner Scott Peterman to Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in Hong Kong.
